Mixed bag

So I left one $$$ opportunity off my list the other day:

The D.J. O’Hearn Memorial Fellowship is a biennial award that offers residency at the Australian Centre, University of Melbourne, to emerging Australian writers. The Fellowship also has a current value of $5,000, and is awarded to a writer of fiction, poetry or drama. You must apply with a sample of writing and the next fellow will be awarded in 2009. Thank god for the weekend. After an evening of Buffy/Angel/Cowboy Bebop goodness (and some Playstation playing, which confirmed how sucky I am at video games) and a big sleep in this morning, I think I am *finally* feeling a bit more like myself. I have yet to do any useful thesis work this week, but since my supervisor has failed to read the chapters I gave him 6 weeks ago, I am not feeling too bad about this fact. Next week will be all about the thesis: this week was all about coping with Clarion separation anxiety.

I seem to have gotten back into the swing of writing, though. I submitted 2 stories (one long, one flash) yesterday, and I spent all of today editing, chopping, and rewriting my Week 5 story so that I can submit that one soon too. It’s now shorter by over 1,000 words (it was actually even shorter, but I added new words and brought the word count back up!) and *I think* much snappier. I will re-read it in a bit, and will probably hack away at it some more.

I’m going to spend the next few hours (hopefully) completing one of the books I have to review, so that I can clear that one off my plate. Then, Chad and I are heading out for some delicious Indian food tonight with some friends, and I intend to sleep in again in the morning.

Again, thank god for the weekend.
