This month, PodCastle is featuring stories that appeared on the Aurealis Awards shortlist for ‘Best Fantasy Short Story’ earlier this year, and I’m absolutely delighted to have ‘A Shot of Salt Water’ (which first appeared in The Dark) included in this feature. Not only is this my very first appearance on PodCastle, which is super-cool, but the podcast has a beautiful introduction by my dear Angela Slatter, and the story is narrated by Cian Mac Mahon. What a genius choice of a narrator! Cian’s Irish accent lends itself gorgeously to the rolling, rollicking beats of this seaside mermaid tale. Thanks so much for this, PodCastle! What a joy it is to listen to this version. You can hear it for yourselves here.
(Thanks also to Aidan Doyle, who I suspect had quite a bit to do with suggesting this Australian fiction month at the podcast…)
