A while back, the lovely folks over at This Is Horror asked me to be a part of their podcast series. The result? A reading of ‘Carousel’, the first story in my collection Bluegrass Symphony — a story that is great fun to read (even though, as I’m sure you’ll no doubt hear, it’s hard reading a whole piece through without making any stuff-ups…) It’s always a challenge to choose the right story to read aloud — and not just because of the tripping tongue. You don’t want it to be too long or too short, to be too dialogue-heavy (if there are multiple characters, that is), or to have prose that’s too dense to follow aurally… which is why I like ‘Carousel’ for readings. It’s the Baby Bear of stories.
I hope you enjoy listening to it (and that you’ll forgive my blunders!) You can hear my piece, and other excellent podcasts on This Is Horror, over here.
